The full cost of Sergio Aguero’s transfer from Atletico Madrid to Manchester City in 2011 has been revealed by the website Football Leaks.
City paid the La Liga club a fixed sum of €36 million for
the Argentine striker, with that fee broken down into three €12 million
instalments.
They paid the first instalment in July 2011, with the second two instalments following in 2012 and 2013.
In addition to that initial fee, the Premier League club
have since had to pay a further €4 million euros, taking the 27-year-old
striker’s total cost to €40 million.
One part of the transfer document revealed that City would
pay Atletico €250,000 “in respect of each tranche of 15 Qualifying
Goals during the relevant period” and another €250,000 “in respect of
each tranche of 25 Relevant Appearances during the Relevant Period.”
Those bonuses were capped at €2 million, so the Rojiblanco should now have received an additional €2 million.
Other bonuses, which were also capped at €2 million,
included payments for City winning the Premier League, or for reaching
the semi-final or final of the Champions League.
Two Premier League titles, with Aguero’s late goal against
QPR winning the first, have therefore ensured another maximum payment
for Atletico.
Finally, it’s also been revealed there is no anti-Real Madrid clause written into the transferIt had been speculated that City wouldn’t be allowed to sell the striker to Los Blancos due to a stipulation from Atletico when they signed him, but that does not appear to be true.
